Spot-On Toys 158A/2 Shell-BP Bedford Articulated Petrol Tanker

Description

This is the last issue and very rare colour variation in yellow, white and grey. It comes complete with a very nice box , packing piece and a mint collectors card .

This is a very rare Spot-On model, one of the hardest models to source. This is the first I have handled and only the third I have seen in over 20 years.

I have been approached by the previous owners son to sell this model. I asked about the background of his father and this is his response.

In 1969 we moved from London, where my Dad had completed an engineering apprenticeship, to Dunstable, Bedfordshire where my dad drove tankers for Shell/BP out of Buncefield terminal, Hemel Hempstead. In 1980 he transferred to Luton Airport where he refuelled aircraft and became quality control supervisor. He retired from Shell in 1994 at the age of fifty and moved to the South Coast with my Mum. He passed away four years ago.

It is always nice to have a sense of history with a rare model so I hope this is helpful to those who maybe interested . I am now selling this model on commission for the son.

Item Condition

Near Mint - Could include small marks or chips from mint.
Any touch-ins are always
clearly stated.

Item Condition

In generally un-played with condition. Only an occasional minimal mark and probably as it left the factory except that the side and end transfers though complete have now stained with age.

The front number plate is partly missing. The number plate reads ‘LXQ 111’ Overall I would say this model is in Near Mint plus condition.

Missing from most extensive Spot-On collections here is an opportunity to obtain the ‘Holy Grail’. This must be one of the five rarest Spot-On models.

Box Condition

Box Condition

Near Mint - Possible edge wear, card dulling, heavier pricing, light graffiti or signs of removed labels.
(All items graded out of 5)

Box Condition

The box is also very nice indeed with no damage or broken corners. Complete with it’s internal packing piece and a mint collectors card this box is in near mint condition, with only minor external box rubs and a little common selotape residue found on probably all or most commercial boxes.
