European Toys
From time to time Diecast Gems also stock high quality European models from brands outside the big three, such as dies cast models from Marklin, French maker Solido and Matchbox. Solido was one of the first brands to champion the ‘unbreakable diecast metal models’ with the brand name becoming established in 1930 by Ferdinand de Vazeilles.
Through the 1960s, the models continually improved in detail finesse and realism, reportedly based on blueprints from actual car manufacturers.
The ‘100’ series were a combination of realistic production cars as well as some interesting competition models. French Citroen, Peugeot, Renault and Matra were often the focus, but vehicles from Italy and Germany were also common to a lesser extent. British marques were not as prevalent in the line-up although their were some noticeable models.
