Dinky Toys 503 1st Cab Foden Flat truck with Tailboard

Description

Supplied from my own collection.

This is a very scarce red cab Foden with matching flatbed and red ridged wheels on a black chassis and over masked front wheel arches with matching black cab side flashes. As the first casting introduced to the Dinky model range in August 1947, it has no mould block to allocate a small tow hook which was not introduced until October 1948. Also no tank slots which were not introduced until October 1948. An additional important point is that it has no casting support for the chain posts underneath as this was not introduced until January 1952. There is a spare tyre mounted to the chassis by a correct silver nut and bolt. Please note that a black nut and bolt were not issued for any 1st cab model.

A very hard model and colour variation to find in any condition. This is a bright example and high quality item.
Fully light tested and free of any known interference.

Item Condition

The model is in very near mint condition. Apart from one notable chip on the cab roof and roof edge, there is only occasional marks. The paintwork is wonderful and bright and this model is a real scene stealer. So, hard to find in any reasonable condition this will not disappoint. The wheels and base are very nice and the black grip tyres have no flats and now nice and firm.

The front and back of vehicle are mint. It has shiny axle rods and a nice shiny bed screw and silver nut and bolt below.

So often Foden & Guy lorries as premium pieces can come with touch up and repainted areas. This is an honest model free of any known touch ins with minimal  play wear history.

Box Condition

Excellent Plus - Minor edge wear, starter tears or heavy pricing. Could also be graffiti or tape residue, but good overall.

Box Condition

The correct early brown box is very nice with a correct red and white top and side label. There is some age grubbiness now but it is a strong box with no damage to label or box. A clear red ‘R’ is on the end label and a matching red ‘M 42’ in red circle on base.
